Medigap Plan G
Medigap Policy G is similar to Medigap Policy F with the difference of Policy F covering the deductible for Medicare Part B, whereas Medigap Policy G requires the enrollee to pay this deductible. Because of this difference, Medigap Plan G premiums are often offered at more affordable rates, when compared to Plan F. Like Plan F, Medigap Plan G health insurance was designed to help cover excess costs from physicians and other healthcare providers that Medicare does not cover.
The basic coverage offered by Medigap Plan G includes:
- Part B coinsurance for medical expenses
- Part A coinsurance for hospitalization with an additional 365 days of coverage after Medicare benefits are exhausted
- Co-payments for outpatient services
- Three pints of blood annually
Additional benefits of Medigap Plan G include:
- Medicare Part A deductible for hospital stays
- Medicare Part B Excess Charges of 80%, which cover the cost of doctor fees that exceed what Medicare will approve.
- Overseas Emergency Medical Care costs according to the plan’s limits
- Skilled Nursing Facility Care Coinsurance, which covers the costs that normally must be paid by the individual for the 21st to the 100th day.
- Some or all At-Home Recovery costs that are not provided by Medicare approved home health care services are either covered or reimbursed.
What Medigap Policy G does not cover include:
- Medicare Part B Deductible
- Preventative Care
- Hospice Care co-payments or coinsurance is not covered. Individuals who receive hospice home care may be required to pay $5 for each medication that hospice provides as well as 5% of inpatient respite care that is Medicare approved.
